Geology 409 / 509
Geology 409/509, Field Methods in Hydrogeology, is as an introduction to field methods commonly used in hydrogeologic investigations. Emphasis is placed on in-field, hands-on instruction using state of the art equipment and techniques that are transferable to future employment in a variety of fields. Field trips are taken to localities not accessible to us during the regular school year. More than 100 geologists, hydrogeologists, soil scientists, foresters, and engineers have reaped the benefits of this course since 1990. It is offered in early summer session on odd-numbered years (next offering is May 2009). An undergraduate (409) and a graduate (509) version of the course are offered. Dr. Bill Simpkins, who received a Master Teacher Award from ISU for the course in 2002, is the primary instructor. Other professors and graduate students also participate in the course.
