Graduate Students
The Department of Geological and Atmospheric Sciences offers M.S.
and Ph.D. degrees in earth science, geology, and meteorology. The
departmental faculty includes scientists in earth science (1), geology
(10), and meteorology (5). The main office and earth science and geology
faculty are located in the Science I Building. Graduate students are
generally provided office space near those faculty with whom they
work most closely to enhance the exchange of ideas and information.
Graduate student programs in geology are arranged on an individual
basis to allow maximum flexibility within the broad general degree
requirements. The degrees in earth science have different specified
requirements to provide degree programs in non-typical areas of emphasis.
The Department also participates in the interdepartmental major in
Water Resources. A Geology/Water Resources major (thesis or non-thesis)
emphasizing the geology and geochemistry of groundwater can also be
obtained in the department. Applicants wishing to obtain details about
our programs are encouraged to direct inquiries to the: Kristie Franz, Graduate Applications Coordinator, Department of Geological
and Atmospheric Sciences, phone (515) 294-7454 or e-mail to kfranz@iastate.edu.
We are pleased to answer your questions and describe research opportunities
available to you.
