Dear ISU Geology Alumni:

As indicated in this year's Varve, we will be holding an alumni celebration at the Iowa State University Field Station in Shell, Wyoming from July 7 to 9 of this summer. Those of you who participated in 2002 know that this is an enormously fun event. For the 2002 gathering, we had 150 participants, including alumni, faculty, staff, family, and friends. From the feedback we've received so far, we expect the event this summer to also be well attended. Two special guests this year will be the Dean of our college, Mike Whiteford, and his wife, Patty.

This packet includes the schedule of activities, registration form, and list of motels. Note that there is no charge to attend. (Although donations to help defray the cost of meals will be accepted!) Nonetheless, it is very important that you either mail in the registration form, call-in your reservation (to DeAnn Frisk at 515-294-4477), or send us an e-mail (geology@iastate.edu) by March 31st in order to help us with the planning. We realize that not all of you will be able to commit by that date, and we will by all means accept late registrants. Nonetheless, the sooner you let us know your plans, the better. Most importantly, if you plan to stay in a motel, you will want to make your reservation ASAP. We were able to reserve a block of rooms at the Yellowstone Motel in Greybull, but the number of spots they were willing to put on hold is limited and will surely not cover our full needs. At the time of writing of this letter, the other local motels had plenty of rooms available. However, this is expected to change quickly as people start making their plans for the summer. Note that the timing of our event does coincide with the peak tourist season!!

Since this year's geology field camp students will use the station until Friday, July 6, we request that you arrive at camp no sooner than the morning of Saturday, July 6.

We look forward to seeing you there.

Sincerely,

Carl Jacobson
