Geol/EnvSci 403: Environmental Biogeochemistry

The Earth can be considered as a closed chemical system. Yet, the basic chemistry on Earth is changing rapidly. This course will cover the basics about the effects of life on the chemistry of earth and emphasize the chemical reactions that link the elements that are important to life. Schematically, this course will be organized into two parts: Part I: Reactions and Processes, and Part II: Cycles and Modeling.

Geol/EnvSci 434/534: Contaminant Hydrogeology

This class will cover the theory and practical considerations of fate and transport of solutes through porous geologic materials. Applications will center on flow of groundwater and its contaminants and other related topics of interest. We will also have some computer exercises. The course is conducted as a series of lectures with take-home problems.

Geol/EnvSci 422/522: Environmental Geochemistry

This course will apply basic chemical principles such as thermodynamics, kinetics, and equilibrium to the investigation of common low-temperature and environmental geochemical problems. Each unit will place geochemical topics in the context of a broader geological perspective with particular emphasis on chemical principles.

Geol/Micro/BBMB/EnvSci 432/532: Geomicrobiology
